This is known as hate crime and reporting it can help.
Racial harassment is a criminal offence and should be reported. Offenders who are found guilty of carrying out a racist crime will
receive a more severe penalty. You can report an incident if you
are a victim, witness, or a third party who has become aware of
an incident. You can also report incidents without disclosing your
identity. In an emergency, if you need a police officer to attend, call 999.
What is a racist incident?
A racist incident is any incident, which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person. An incident can still be a racist incident even though no crime has been committed.
It can take the form of any of the following behaviours:Verbal abuse Physical assaultDamage to your home or propertyThreats to harm you or your familyRudenesss about your religionGraffitiTargeted Noise NuisanceReceiving racist mailReceiving racist telephone calls or text messages
You can report a racist incident or a hate crime directly to the police or through 3rd party reporting agency such as Amina.

What happens after it is reported:
You will be informed of the options available that will enable the report to be progressed and then the decision will be yours as to what action you wish to proceed with. No action will be taken without your consent
What action can be taken?Prosecuting the offender.Warning the offender.Obtaining an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO). This bans the offender from behaving in a certain way or from entering into specific areas.Injunction - A legal order which stops the offender acting anti-socially.Seeking a court order for possession of the property if a council tenant or a social landlord tenant is involved.Advice on extra security for you and your home.Priority transfer or emergency rehousing in extreme cases.
