Volunteering opportunities are available in both Glasgow and Dundee whereby the Amina Befriending Service aims to provide companionship to Muslim and minority ethnic women who feel isolated. Trained befrienders can meet women in their homes, accompany them to activities and generally encourage them to become more involved in the community.

Qualities of a befriending volunteer:

• Good at communicating with people
• Good at encouraging/ motivating others
• Willingness to support a lonely and vulnerable woman
• A good listener
• Willingness to make an on-going commitment
• Willingness to spare time

Reasons for becoming a volunteer befriender:
It affords you the chance to:
• Help other people
• Use and build on existing skills
• Build your own confidence and become more involved in the local community.
• Learn new skills by accessing a wide range of workshops and training sessions
• Deliver training
• Be in charge of running activities for clients.
• Improve employment opportunities
• Explore opportunities in further education
• Become involved in the local community
