Amina MWRC works with mainstream agencies and policy makers, to enhance their understanding of the Muslim community and of barriers that prevent Muslim women from accessing services and participating in society. We provide direct helping services and community development to Muslim women.
Amina MWRC was founded in 1997 as a community initiative developed by women from the Scottish Muslim community who felt mainstream services weren’t reaching, or adequately meeting, the needs of many Muslim women – one of the most disadvantaged groups in society. Five years later, in 2002, we opened our doors to the public.
MWRC is run by women for (predominantly) Muslim women with an elected Management Committee. The centre is made up of:
• 20 experienced staff members
(10 Glasgow, 5 Dundee, 5 Sessional)
• 40 dedicated volunteers
• 12 Management Committee members
